Patch 1.2

Patch 1.2

The doors are open with the latest update to Midnight Murder Club. Frankly, it’s unhinged. This team has outdone themselves, and by that, I mean they need help. We’re hurtling toward our full launch on August 14th with a slew of updates that you can find in the latest trailer.

We’ve added new Wildcards. We dropped chandeliers on at least a dozen unsuspecting playtesters. We added voice scrambling to ensure players have a more respectful time as they take one another out. We put a flaming skull in the air and said, “yup, ship it.” If this game had a therapist, they’d be on vacation by now.

Here’s the full list of Wildcards this update drops:

  • Falling Chandelier: Attach a chandelier to the ceiling that will fall on your enemies when they walk underneath it.
  • Flaming Skull: Transform into a flaming, flying skull and hunt your enemies from the skies!
  • Party Room: There ain’t no party like a Midnight Murder party because the Midnight Murder party don’t stop! Until everyone is dead. Then... then it stops...
  • Knives Only: By popular request, you gotta slash your enemies to bits.
  • Sound Blast Jazz Club: Every time you fire your gun, it sounds like a high school band rehearsing.
  • Pinged to Death!: On a player’s death, a pinger goes off revealing the locations of everyone in the mansion.
  • Shrink Shot: Get shot, get shrunk, get revenge.
  • Gift from the Grave: When you die, you’ll get a little present that will give you a chance to catch up and get back at your killer.
  • All in the Chamber: All your bullets fire at once. More bullets = More good!
  • Growing Glow Trail: We’ve replaced the previous Glowing Glow Trails Wildcard with this. Now your trail starts small and gets longer with every kill.

Thanks to feedback from players and playtesters, we also implemented some tools to help you find your way through the shadows. If you were around for one of our Friday Dev Streams, you may have seen the map within the Mansion Compass, which has been a huge help for players who stumbled around in the dark, trying to find their next victim. As always, you’ll need to turn your flashlight on to view it, but once you do, you’ll have a much better idea of where you’re going. In addition, when you die, you no longer have to guess at what room you were in. Every time you die, there will be a death pin you can track in the dark that marks the location where you died, to help you get back to where you were.

With so many new changes in this update, we’ve shifted some of our features to our next update, because, “that’s game development, baby!” The star of the show in our next update will be our new co-op PVE game mode, Graveyard Shift, where you and a friend search for relics hidden around the mansion. When you find one, you’ll need to return it to the vault, avoiding the foes that try to stop you.

And before anyone asks, you’ll be happy to know that Key Remapping has been added to the roadmap for 1.3, too! Yay!
